The Michigan Coalition for Human Rights presents, The Assault on Democratic Rights: The Supreme Court Decision and The Suppression of Voting Rights.

Lighted, secure parking
This event will feature Civil Rights Attorney and Former Director of Center for Constitutional Rights, Bill Goodman
In the Supreme Court decision of Shelby, Alabama v. Holder, the court found section 5 of the Voting Rights Act unconstitutional. Already states are making voting tougher by instituting voter ID laws and restrictions to expanded voting time and voter registration drives. Many of these changes have impacted people of color and minorities more. What must be done to protect the right to vote for all people?
Suggested donation $5

The Michigan Coalition for Human Rights (MCHR) will be having its annual dinner this Sunday. Diane Nash—Civil Rights Freedom Rider and Founder of the SNCC (Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee, civil rights movement)—will be the keynote speaker at this event. We have some excellent honorees as well, and their stories are compelling.
This dinner is a tribute and fundraiser for the Freedom Tour sponsored by the MCHR. This tour will take high school students from Metro Detroit to follow the route freedom riders took in the sixties during the civil rights movement.
The deadline to reserve seats is Thursday, April 4th by 6 p.m. The best way to reserve now is to call the office at 313 579-9071. Tickets are $60 or VIP dinner tickets can be purchased for $90. We will also accept cash and checks (made out to MCHR) at the door. You can also order and pay online at www.mchr.org. This will help us ensure an accurate count for food orders.
Those who do not purchase tickets to the event will be pleased to know that they can still listen in on a free panel presentation with Diane Nash this Sunday @ 1pm in Main Dining Room.
Marygrove College is located in Detroit at 8425 W. McNichols. The campus is on the NW corner of McNichols (6 Mile) and Wyoming. The event will take place in the Madame Cadillac Building; the Reception is in Denk Chapman Hall; and Dinner is in Alumni Hall.
