Marygrove Athletics Launches Free Android App

Marygrove Athletics AppMarygrove College Athletics announced Thursday (Jan. 16) the release of a free mobile app for Android devices available on the Google Play store.

Designed for the community to stay connected on the go, the app acts as a mobile host to information provided on the athletics website, MarygroveMustangs.com, and the department’s social media channels.

The release follows a long line of communications enhancements over the past year for Marygrove’s athletic department. Other recent additions include the department’s first mobile app (apple devices), a new broadcasting partner and schedule through Stretch Internet, and an enhanced communications strategy that led to numerous upgrades to the department’s award-winning website, MarygroveMustangs.com, and the department’s social media channels.

The Android app, created by the department’s website-hosting company — SIDhelp – was officially released earlier this week and is currently available on the Google Play store. The Android version of the app accompanies an August 2013 release of the department’s Apple (iOS) app. When the Apple version was launched, the athletic department received an overwhelming demand for an Android app from those in the Marygrove community.

“We realize the importance of reaching all of our supporters efficiently and effectively in the world of modern communication we live in,” remarked Assistant Athletic Director for Communications & Events, Tim Johnston. “This year’s additions to our athletic communication efforts have reflected positively on the overall student-athlete experience at Marygrove College,” continued Johnston. “More than ever, our staff and students receive compliments on the fine work that is being done by the entire Mustang Family. I am very proud of our growth and the great work the students and staff put forth to allow us this type of growth and exposure. We couldn’t be happier to launch our latest app for those with Android devices.”

With the Android app, fans can read the latest headlines and game recaps, check up on recent news within the department, access student-athlete and staff bios, view team schedules, get connected through the various department social media channels, and even watch or listen to live events when a Wi-Fi connection is available.

A wet, wild Saturday (Oct. 13) on Marygrove’s campus was culminated by a dramatic overtime victory for the men’s soccer team. The 3-2 OT win was made possible by the terrific goalkeeping of freshman Christian Bryant (Plymouth, Mich./Southfield Christian) and outstanding offensive efforts from Jordan Berry (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood) and Jad El-Zein (Tyre, Lebanon/Dearborn Fordson). GREAT WEEKEND FOR MARYGROVE ATHLETICS!
This past weekend was as good as it gets for three of Marygrove’s teams. On Friday (09/21), the women’s volleyball team triumphed over Ohio State-Marion in straight sets. Senior Shana Tooley (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) had 14 digs, while fellow Belleville native and senior Megan Gohl (Belleville, Mich./Belleville) captained the offense with 37 assists. Saturday (09/22) marked a doubleheader of soccer action that began with the women hosting NCAA Division II Ursuline College (Ohio). A brilliant performance by sophomore Kaitlyn Vigna (China Twp., Mich./Marine City) propelled the Mustangs to a 2-1 win against their NCAA DII counterpart. Vigna totaled three points to help the Mustangs become the first team to get a victory over a NCAA DII school in the history of Marygrove College Athletics. Saturday was capped off with men’s soccer victory in their WHAC opener vs. Lawrence Tech (Mich.). MUSTANG SOCCER COMPLETES FIRST WEEK OF ACTION
The 2012 fall sports campaign began with feature match-ups against a pair of NCAA Division I opponents for our soccer programs. On Friday, the men’s soccer team traveled to Kalamazoo to take on mighty Western Michigan University. The road tilt against the heavily-favored Broncos ended in a 4-0 decision for the home team. The Mustangs fought hard and nearly notched a couple of goals against the D1 counterpart. Also on Friday, the women’s soccer team made the short trek to face the Titans of University of Detroit-Mercy. The Titans, picked as favorites to win their conference, were frustrated all match by a stellar Mustang defense that only allowed three goals to their favored opponent (Final: UDM 3, Marygrove 0).

HISTORY! MUSTANG VOLLEYBALL STARTS SEASON 2-0 FOR FIRST TIME IN PROGRAM HISTORY
Friday marked plenty of firsts for the volleyball program at Marygrove College. New head coach Jamie Baker coached intercollegiate contest No.1 and made the most of it in her first match with a new team. The team, anchored by four seniors that helped start the program in 2009, was able to help Baker win her first match as a college head coach. After all the action was complete, the Mustangs won both matches to earn a 2-0
record for the first time in program history. Coach Baker will sit down with MARYGROVEMUSTANGS.COM later this week for a recap of Friday’s events.
