Light Up Livernois this Weekend at Marygrove College

The Live6 Alliance joins forces with Marygrove College and the Carr Center for Light Up Livernois @ Marygrove, a set of weekend events highlighting the creative culture in Northwest Detroit. This event is in conjunction with the Detroit Design Festival (DDF), an annual, citywide celebration of design whose theme is “Designing Detroit’s Future.”

Celebrations will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday September 23, with performances by Northwest Detroit dancers, musicians, and writers at the Marygrove College Theatre, part of Connecting Neighborhood Creatives’ dedication of the Charles McGee Community Commons at McNichols and Wyoming.

On Saturday September 24, the celebratory events extend from 10:30 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and include a neighborhood parade featuring the opening of the Charles McGee Community Commons on McNichols and Wyoming. School-age children of Marygrove faculty and staff are invited to join the parade and enjoy cider and donuts afterward. Next, musical and poetic performances curated by the Carr Center on Marygrove College’s lawn.  Performers include Collective Peace, Neighborhood Storytellers, Jessica Care Moore, and the New Breed BeBop Society Orchestra. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and enjoy the music and spoken word performances.

Throughout the day, The Gallery at Marygrove College will be open so that visitors may see A Six Mile Connection, an exhibition of works by northwest Detroit area artists, curated by Marygrove’s Rose DeSloover.

Celebrations continue on 16651 Livernois, where Live6 will have a reception in its new headquarters to launch a collaboration with Model D. For those who are visiting the area, art installations at both Marygrove College and the Live6 headquarters will serve as beacons for the events.

Light Up Livernois continues on the historic Avenue of Fashion and features programming such as fashion shows, music and art pop-ups, and open houses for local businesses.

A free shuttle service will bring attendees to all events along the Livernois and McNichols corridors to encourage newcomers and residents alike to dive deeper into the rich art culture that thrives in the area. The shuttle will be running from 5:00 – 10:00 p.m. on Saturday 9/24.
