Marygrove Visual Arts to Partner with Beaumont Orthopedics in Community Restoration Project

playground-slide-1As a part of the Visual Art Department’s Arts and Civic Engagement agenda, we are excited to announce that we have been awarded a grant to complete a restoration project in Detroit (Lollo Playground, Detroit, MI at the crossroads of Puritan Ave and Cherrylawn St.).

This park restoration has been a project lead by Detroit College Core Block Club, Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, and the Beaumont Orthopedic Department.  That group invited Marygrove’s Visual Arts Department to design and install a mural as part of the restoration. The project will be entirely funded by the Beaumont Orthopedic Department.

Faculty member, Sarah Nesbitt, will be in charge of this project which will be completed this summer. She will be working with her summer ART105 students as well as many volunteer Visual Art Department students who are focusing on Arts and Civic Engagement as their profession.
