frank_mcauliffeMarygrove College golf head coach Frank McAuliffe, the 2010 Michigan PGA Professional of the Year, made the cut at this year’s PGA Professional National Championship Monday (June 23) at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Marygrove head coach is competing against a loaded field of golf pros from across the country as they vie for the championship, spots in upcoming 2014 PGA Tour events, and other prizes.

After shooting a one-over (73) in Sunday’s opening round, McAuliffe fought off a few rough holes to make the cut with a three-over round of 75 Monday. Sitting at +4 after two rounds, McAuliffe was able to make the cut to play out the final two rounds by sitting one stroke ahead of the cut line (+5).

McAuliffe started Monday’s second round on the 10th hole and birdied the (par-4)15th after opening with four consecutive pars. The birdie brought Marygrove’s golf pro to even thru 23 holes of play against some of the best PGA professionals the nation has to offer. A pair of double-bogeys pushed McAuliffe back to the cut line with seven holes to go before he sank a key birdie (par-5) on number eight to move four-over.

At the time of release, McAuliffe sat in a tie for 67th place thru 36 holes and was seven shots back of the leader. He was in a top-20 position earlier in the day after birdying the 15th.
