Thank you for making Take Back the Night-Detroit a huge success

take back the nightOn behalf of Student Life, The Women’s Center, the Social Work Department and SASHA Center, we would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved for helping to make our Sexual Assault Awareness month Take Back the Night-Detroit event a huge success last Friday evening!  We believe that once again we had more than 250 participants!

All of those who attended the event saw the collaborative efforts of students; faculty and staff here at Marygrove and those who attended reported a sense of community, healing and power in acknowledging sexual assault survivors.

The march was a powerful visual of women, men, children, families and members from all walks of life saying that sexual assault is wrong and must stop.  The Healing Tent and the Tocheva Wall of Hope was a huge success as we acknowledged Sumarah Smith and Evelyn Pinkard (How Does Your Goddess Grow) as the new resident artists for the project in memory of Tzveta Tocheva. We are also very happy to announce that the winner of the Ava Rogers Scholarship was Social Work major Marquetta Turner.

While we would like to thank every person who worked to make this event the success that it was, we know that would be too many to name here.  Therefore, please know that your efforts, contributions, service, and work towards raising awareness on the topic of sexual assault was truly appreciated.

See you next April and please remember to wear your teal ribbon all month long to acknowledge that this is the right time to get involved and recognize survivors of sexual assault.  An awareness month display can be viewed at the Marygrove College Library until the end of the month.

When we work in the spirit of collaboration we all benefit.  On behalf of the Take Back the Night-Detroit planning committee we thank you very much!
