Detroit, Michigan – University Commons is hosting a Jazz on the Ave, August 4, 2012. On Livernois Between 8 Mile and Fenkel. From 8:30am to 10pm.
It’s our Community. Let’s rejoice and celebrate it!!!!!!! Come and join us for a day of family fun.
This is the forth annual Jazz on the Ave. Come enjoy entertainment, visit with neighborhood association, play games and good food and much more. Jazz on the Ave is part of the Arise Detroit sixth Annual Neighborhoods Day event.
Arise Detroit Neighborhoods Day showcases what neighborhood residents are doing to create a better community. More than 100 events will be held across Detroit on August 4, as part of the sixth annual ARISE Detroit! Neighborhoods Day. The intent is to bring the community together for family activities and celebrate the wonderful communities we live in.
Sound Stage 1 will be at New Prospects Church Parking lot on Livernois just south of Pembroke. Here we will have gospel and family friendly R&B. There will be bouncies, Arts & Scraps, Face Painting, Putt-Putt golf and other children’s activities. These events will be form 12 noon to 6pm.
Sound Stage 2 will be at Mike’s Market Parking lot on Livernois just north of 7 Mile Rd. Here we will have jazz. There will be food stations. These events will be form 5pm to 10pm.

The Mission of the organization is to improve the physical and economic character of the Livernois/McNichols corridors, support planning and development activities consistent with the ReStore Program operated by the City of Detroit Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood and Commercial Revitalization, enhance communication among concerned stakeholders and public entities and other wise promote the quality of life within the area. University Commons was created to spearhead and oversee the commercial development of Livernois from 8 Mile to the Lodge and McNichols from Livernois to Wyoming. Key stakeholders include University of Detroit-Mercy, Mary grove, Northstar Community Development Corporation, Shoppers Coop, local business associations, and local community organizations that are in the 12th Precinct Neighborhood Coalition (Bagley, Blackstone Park, Detroit Golf Club, Fitzgerald, Greenacres/Woodward, Greenwich Park, Martin Park, Palmer Woods, Pilgrim Village, Schaefer 7/8 Lodge, Sherwood Forest, and University District). The organization has stimulated Collaborative commercial development relationships between the stakeholders, the City of Detroit, and Wayne County.
