On Tuesday, September 17 the College will gather at Noon in the Sacred Heart Chapel within the Liberal Arts Building to celebrate the Opening Mass of the Holy Spirit. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to be a part of this tradition in which we ask God’s blessings and gifts of wisdom and discernment at the beginning of the new academic year and as we welcome our new students to the Marygrove community.
We are delighted to welcome back Bishop Don Hanchon as celebrant. Bishop Hanchon is a spiritual leader with a heart for the people of this city. Since 1987 he has served as pastor in parishes serving the Hispanic Community – including Holy Redeemer parish in Southwest Detroit, from 1999 until his ordination as Auxiliary Bishop in 2011. He continues his ministry within the Detroit, Hamtramck and the Highland Park regions.
The Mass will be followed by LUNCH on the LAWN. If at all possible, I would ask that afternoon classes be given a “grace period” – beginning at 1:45 p.m. (rather than 1:30 p.m.) so all of our students can join in this special gathering of the Marygrove community.
I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.
David J. Fike, Ph.D.
