The Institute of Music & Dance at Marygrove College continues to engage urban leaders to engage our youth!
On Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 Kevin Iega Jeff (Bio below) taught a High School Outreach Master Dance Class to 40 students and 2 teachers from Renaissance High School and Arts Academy in the Woods.
Mr. Jeff first came to Marygrove College, in October 2007, to teach a High School Outreach Master Class through the Onstage! Program. At that time he set one of his signature pieces, Church of Nations, on the Marygrove College Dance Company.
Mr. Jeff has returned to Marygrove to teach through the Onstage! Program: in 2009 he inspired a number of dancers during the 40th season of the Festival of Dance to work with the undergraduate dance program.
An inspirational teacher in the highest order, there was a profound transformation of the high school students from the start of the Master Class to its finish. The photo certainly attest to the engagement of artist and students.

As a Marygrove Alum and founder of the Renaissance High School Dance program, it warms my heart to see all of my dance worlds converge. When I left Detroit and moved to Chicago, I began working with Kevin Iega Jeff. I spent 13 years directing the Deeply Rooted Training Programs and continue to teach and choreograph for the Summer Intensive. I am so excited that my Detroit dance family is strong and connected to the amazing dance experiences that so many generations of Detroit artists have known.
