About Dramafest & The Second Stage
In 2008, Professor of English and Chair of English and Modern Languages Donald E. Levin, Ph.D. conceived and premiered Dramafest to the Marygrove community as another example of the College’s long tradition of offering rich cultural experiences for the community. In 2011, the baton was passed on to Leslie Love, Theatre Director and Adjunct Professor, who has extended the program to the community with a partnership with The Arts League of Michigan/Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center.
Dramafest is an evening of staged readings of original one-act plays and excerpts from longer works written by emerging and established playwrights. Dramafest also encourages and emphasizes the development of new works by women and ethnically diverse playwrights.
Past playwrights include: Donald Levin, Ph.D.; Michael Martin, Thomas Galasso, Leslie Love, Sharon Wallace, Oliver Pookrum, Diane Reeder, Horace H.B. Sanders, Rochelle Riley, Kalimah Johnson, Antoinette Cartwright and Deborah Gibson.
