We need volunteers to help beautify the neighborhood!

Our Neighborhood Engaged (ONE) has been working to design concepts to fix up and clean up  4 Demonstration Blocks on McNichols from Wisconsin to Roselawn.  Our goal is to make low-cost affordable improvements which will visually support existing businesses, make vacant buildings more attractive for reuse and hopefully occupancy, stabilize slipping neighborhood property values, and demonstrate, by example, that low-cost improvments can make a big difference and communicate to our neighbors that we care about our neighborhood.

Our plans will move into action in the next few weeks.  With a small grant and the help from Motor City Blight Busters, Summer in the City, Greening of Detroit, and hopefully lots of volunteers, we are ready to tackle some of the of planned improvements in the eastern block – Northlawn to Roselawn (that is the block with Lou’s Deli and the “Psychic Reader” vacant building).  Our plans include power washing the buildings, sidewalks and parking lots, removing debris and weeds, planting trees, removal of illegal signs, and painting and securing the vacant building.

We are in need of many volunteers to help us on our clean up day coming up Saturday, June 23, 2012 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM.  Please consider helping us and encouraging students, colleagues, family and friends to join us.  Please bring working gloves– tools and equipment will be provided.  Lunch will be served for all volunteers.

If you can volunteer, please contact Regina at 313 927 1219.

  1. Hello,
My name is Dean. I see that you are planting trees for your cleanup day this weekend. Do you need assistance from the Greening of Detroit? Feel free to contact me at 313.285.1252 (office) or 313.303.3262 (cell). Thanks.

    • Hi Dean! Thanks so much for your offer. We will pass it along to the appropriate person to contact you. Thanks again!!!
